Professor Baird is an
Assistant Professor of Sociology.
She earned her doctorate in sociology from Florida State
University. Her research and
teaching interests lie in the areas of youth and the life course, gender
inequality, work and family, and social policy on gender, work and
families. Undergirding these
research areas are the common questions: What are the social-psychological and
social-structural forces that hinder or enhance peoples’ ability to attain
their goals, particularly workforce, educational, and family-formation
goals? What are the mental health
and material consequences of unmet goals?
How do social-psychological and social-structural forces influence
people’s support for social policy?
Her work appears in American
Sociological Review, The Sociological Quarterly, Sex Roles, Journal of Women,
Politics & Policy, and Sociology Compass.
